Pros:

  • Cards cost less than £1
  • Extremely robust metal card readers which are virtually vandal proof

Cons:

  • Access control zones are limited to 5
  • Cards more likely to be lost or broken as they have to removed from bags
  • Reader heads have to be replaced after a number of years
