System Components
Network Controller:
This is the information centre of the Sentinel system. It collects all the registration data and stores it in its own memory, which is capable of holding up to 72,000 registrations. The network controller also interfaces with the fire alarm system and printer.
Repeater/Power Supply:
These units boost signal data and supply power to the readers. The supplied power is low voltage and non-hazardous. One is required for every 20 readers.
Reader:
This is the student and staff interface unit. It produces a different audio tone depending on whether the person is logging in or out. A different tone is also generated for invalid cards or fingerprints. Visual indications are also given for good swipe and session in progress.
Access Control Unit:
Similar in appearance to the reader this unit opens an electronic lock when activated with an appropriate card or fingerprint, allowing entry to authorised pupils and staff only.
Card Encoder:
For card based systems a card encoder is available as an optional extra for writing replacement and new cards.
Personal Computer:
The PC is connected to the network controller via the serial port. It is used to configure the system, retrieve data for generating reports and for carrying out all manual adjustments.
